What a fast year it's been. I told my daughter that the other day, and she looked at me like I had 3 heads. "I'm serious!" I said. "This year went by quickly." She rolled her eyes and said "No it did NOT." With only a couple days of school left in the year, things are wrapping up and I finally have a chance to look back and see all the work that was done this year.
When she first started school in the fall I knew I wanted to join the PTA but had no idea in what capacity. When it was mentioned that they needed help with photos for the First Grade Yearbook I knew I wanted in on that. I enthusiastically raised my hand, mentioned that I do photography, and said I would love to help take photos at events throughout the year. In typical PTA fashion, they happily took my offer, and off we went.
Little did I know what an undertaking that would be - strategic scheduling between my husband and me so I could go to all the school events; morning, noon or evening, sometimes for an hour, sometimes much more. Headshots of staff and students who were missed by the contracted district photography company on picture day. Many hours on top of that of editing and proofing to prepare for submission for printing. A lot of work, but a lot of fun. It's been gratifying and wonderful to see the moments I captured printed in a memory book these kids and teachers will have forever.
I'm so lucky to be able to do something that brings me happiness.
